AI Training for Patient Groups and Charities
Use AI to create content well, safely, and in a way that keeps your patients' trust
AI Foundation Training
A practical, plain-language 2-hour online session for up to 8 people, at a fixed price. By the end, your team will be able to:
Write patient-facing content faster — without losing accuracy or your organisation's voice
Know what's safe to put into AI tools when handling health information, and what isn't
Catch the mistakes AI makes with medical content before they reach a patient
Set simple, shared guardrails so everyone uses AI the same careful way
Participant Feedback
Thank you for the session yesterday. It was really useful and has helped me consider using AI a lot more — in the past I was always very nervous about it.
— Cath, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Peaches Womb Cancer Trust, UK
Some teams are already using AI. Others aren't sure they should be.
Two situations come up again and again.
AI has crept in quietly.
Someone drafts a newsletter in ChatGPT. A volunteer summarises notes. It saves time, so it spreads, often before anyone's asked the questions that matter for an organisation holding people's trust.
Or the opposite: caution is holding people back.
People suspect AI could help, but aren't sure it's safe or right to use it. So they hold back, while AI turns up everywhere around them. Sensible. Also uncomfortable.
Both situations come down to the same missing piece: a shared, practical understanding of how to use AI for content safely, and where the lines are.
Used well, AI is a genuine help to small, stretched teams. It just needs that shared understanding, so it becomes a strength rather than a quiet risk or a missed opportunity. That's what this training gives you.
The AI Questions Worth Asking in Your Organisation
What should we never put into these tools?
How do we know when the output is wrong or subtly biased?
Has anyone asked the people we serve how they feel about this?
Participant Feedback
I learned and was inspired. It was a genuinely useful discussion — and being useful is a priority for me.
— Pat, President Cold Agglutinin Disease Foundation, Canada

What We’ll Cover in the Training
-
LLMs predict likely text from patterns in training data. Even with tools like web search bolted on, they can produce confident, fluent output that's subtly or substantially wrong.
-
Purpose, Role, Explicit instructions, Context, Inclusions, Scope, Examples. A structured approach that consistently produces better starting points for patient-facing content.
-
AI often defaults to clinical language, or swings the other way and sounds patronising. Revising with empathy, plain language, and appropriate caveats fixes that.
-
Source-checking, clinical review, patient review, version control. Every piece of AI-assisted content goes through all four before it reaches patients.
-
Confident but unsourced claims. Fabricated citations. Smoothed-over clinical nuance. Outdated guidelines. What to look for, especially when the output reads at its most polished.
-
Patient stories and lived experience are never AI-generated. A clear decision framework for where AI helps, and where it doesn't belong.
Practical learning grounded in real-world experience
This training is built on genuine hands-on experience using AI for patient education: what works, what doesn't, and why the difference matters. It covers both halves of using AI for content: how to create it well, and how to keep it safe. The two are never treated separately, because for patient and charity work they can't be.
Participant Feedback
Catherine delivered outstanding training on using AI to enhance patient communications within the healthcare sector. As a charitable organisation supporting individuals with complex health conditions and accessibility needs, it was essential that any tools we adopt are both practical and inclusive—and Catherine struck that balance perfectly.
Her training was clear, engaging, and tailored to our context, helping our team build confidence in using AI in a way that is ethical, accessible, and genuinely beneficial for the people we support.
— Holly, Fundraising & Communications Manager, Galloways, UK
Your AI Content Policy — Agreed in One Session
Most organisations know they need something written down, but some never quite get to it. This is a 2-hour online working session where your team makes the decisions and I write them up. You'll agree:
Where AI can help with your content — and where it is never used
What must never be pasted into a public AI tool
Who has the task of checking what before anything reaches a patient
What you say publicly about your use of AI
You get a policy in your own words, ready to take to your board — not a template you'll never use. Includes a tailored draft beforehand and the finished document within a week.
£495 for your organisation, online. No limit on participant numbers.
Training built by someone who knows both AI and patient communication
I’m Catherine Richards Golini, and I help patient groups and charities use AI in ways that are genuinely useful and maintain the trust of the people they serve.
I am a writer and editor of healthcare information for patients and medical education for healthcare professionals, formerly Patient Resource Manager at Karger Publishers. Before I made the switch to medical publishing, I taught English for medical purposes (EMP) for many years. I have a PhD focused on patient communication, and early, hands-on experience using AI for content creation (and many other things!)
I'm not here to sell you the hype or the fear. I'm here to help your team use these tools with confidence and good judgement.

Your Questions Answered
-
Yes, and you're far from alone. A lot of patient groups and charities are weighing up whether, and how, to use AI responsibly. This training is as much about deciding where AI does and doesn't belong as it is about using it. You'll come away with a clearer, more confident view either way, with no pressure to use AI more than you're comfortable with.
-
Patient groups and charities, particularly small-to-medium teams who are using AI, or thinking about it, and want to do it well.
-
None at all. The training is plain-language and built for non-technical teams.
-
Yes. The two-hour session runs online, which makes it easy to gather your team wherever they're based.
-
It's built specifically for patient and charity work, by someone who has used AI hands-on for patient education. It covers what generic courses skip: getting the tone right for patients, a four-stage verification process, and the data and patient-trust questions that matter when real people are on the receiving end.
-
You'll have a clear sense of what to do next. For organisations that want to go further, whether that's more focused training, an AI policy, light governance, or involving patients in AI decisions, I can help with that too.

Thanks so much for the session earlier. I found it really interesting speaking to others about their experience so the interactivity was very useful!
